Abstract
The last decade has witnessed a paradigm shift in the field of education. The advent of computer technology has changed not only the method of delivery of education, but has also brought about attitudinal changes like personalization, reporting with multimedia, and content. The modern class room utilizes electronic learning (e-learning) management system which include not only the computer system, multimedia projector, key board, and the mouse, but also a highly sophisticated smart board, internet connections, wireless devices and so forth, which is beyond the imagination of the teachers of the past. The new educational system is challenged with identifying effective way to manage the e-learning management system while ensuring quality in the academic delivery.
The main aim of this study is to provide a more in-depth knowledge of the issues highlighted above. Initially pilot tests were conducted to gain more insight about the data collected. After getting inputs from the pilot test the questions were redrafted and 500 samples were collected from the different discipline of students and data analysis was conducted. The variables from this data were found to be normal and the reliability tests indicated the measurement scales used were acceptable. The chi square tests showed a strong association between demographics and experience in computer usage, education, educational level, modes of study and status. The multiple regression results proved the strong relationships between the e-learning quality and five independent variables, namely multimedia, personalization, social network, reports, and systems (e-learning management system). The MANOVA results showed a mixed pattern between the demographics and users’ behaviour towards e-learning management system as well as perceived e-learning quality.
This study proposed a framework of an effective e-learning management system leading to enhanced e-learning quality. The e-learning quality is dependent on many factors and one of the factors is the e-learning management system itself. Therefore the relevant parties in education, for example the lecturers, system developers, the senior management of universities or colleges, and policy makers will have a significant role in remodelling the e-learning framework. Substantial blends between e-learning facilities, processes and qualified workforce should exist to face the expected challenges in e-learning and to promote the country as an e-education hub in the Asian region.
